How to Host the excellent Christmas Party

Before you start worrying over details, stop and think about what a excellent Christmas party means to you. It's not about keeping up with any neighbors. It's not doing things the way your house did when you were young. And it's verily not about trying to be someone that you aren't.

So you now have permission to walk away from those stressful notions. As soon as you make the guest list, set up a four week count down "to do" list unblemished with grocery and wine shopping lists.

Bride of Chucky Specifications

Brace yourself: this is a clever, consistently entertaining, and even inspired continuation of the mean-spirited slasher series. For those not in the know, Chucky is a mop-top kid's doll come to life with the soul of a serial killer and the voice of Brad Dourif (doing his best Jack Nicholson). Revived by his former paramour Tiffany (Jennifer Tilly, looking every inch a life-size Barbie in stiletto heels and skintight black leather), Chucky proceeds to turn his human sweetie into a pint-sized Talking Tina doll with attitude, and together they hit the road for a magic amulet and young new bodies to inhabit. They hitch a ride with sweet young runaways Katherine Heigl and Nick Stabile and leave a trail of corpses bloodied, burned, and cut to ribbons. The kids are cute, but the real heat is generated by the latex lovers who use murder as foreplay and consummate their renewed romance in a night of passionate sex ("Shouldn't you wear a rubber?" "I'm all rubber!"). Hong Kong director Ronny Yu (The Bride with White Hair) directs with a light touch and against all odds transforms walking dolls Chucky and Tiffany into funny, energetic, full-blooded characters: l'amour fou has never been more crazy. John Ritter costars as Heigl's overprotective uncle (another obstacle on the road to dolly freedom) and Alexis Arquette is hilarious as a lanky goth nerd. The wild conclusion leaves room for another high-concept sequel. The DVD features two commentary tracks, a behind-the-scenes documentary, and "Jennifer Tilly's Diary." --Sean Axmaker

You are the host, not the caterer, and your friends want to spend time with you. Whether you host a evening meal or open house, select foods that are easy to serve and self-managing - as in a crock pot or heated chafing dish.

Make sure your food choices are easy to handle. At an open house or cocktail party, guests will mingle and stand. So you need to serve finger foods and nothing that requires a fork and knife to eat.

A holiday party is normally more dressed up than the summer backyard barbeque, so avoid messy foods. Save the lasagna or steak for a sit down evening meal party. Even buffalo wings that work great for a football party don't go well with glitter and gowns.

To keep a party flowing, scatter food trays in several rooms, not just the dining room. Add a few cheese and sandwich trays in the living room and desserts in the house room. To direct your guests, print small cards at each location with directions like this:
"Fabulous Desserts Await You in the house Room." It's almost like a scavenger hunt which keeps guests appealing and seeing new conversation groups as well as more yummy treats.

For your holiday party, you'll want to consolidate many Christmas decorations. select a color and theme. That doesn't mean buying out the party store with kitsch.

If you use a green tablecloth, center the table or serving area with red holly. Then repeat the holly sprigs (artificial are easier and safer) as napkin holders. You can even serve brownies with small red holly berries and green leaves piped from icing sold at the grocer's baking section. Small touches that repeat a color or theme make guests think you planned this months in advance!

Take lots of pictures. The hostess needs to get a digital photo taken with every guest or group. Not only is this a great memory of the party, but it can be sent to each guest with a "thanks for coming to my party" card.

Or you can place the photo inside a Christmas ornament and give that as a personalized gift. Your guests will love this. After all, parties are about bringing together citizen you care about and enjoying the time you have together. Make this year's holiday party one that you remember.
