The 29-year-old Hartley claims the attack happened on the afternoon of Thursday, September 30, 2010, as she and her 30-year-old husband, David Hartley, were riding Jet Skis on the Mexican side of the lake. She says three speedboats began chasing them. Hartley claims that the men "shot her husband in the back of the head" and threatened her life when she tried to help him to safety. In the days that followed, Hartley and other family members made several media appearances, appealing to President Barack Obama and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton for help, saying the Mexican authorities weren't doing enough to try and recover David Hartley's body. In an interview on NBC's ''Today'' show, Tiffany Hartley said the gunman sped off after the shooting. She told ''Today'' host Meredith Viera that when she realized she couldn't get her husband onto her own Jet Ski, she sped toward the Texas side of the lake and called 911 for help. According to the Associated Press, Texas authorities have said that "several fishermen were robbed at gunpoint earlier this year on the Mexican side of the lake" but that "no one was hurt" in those incidents. As of October 8, 2010, David Hartley's body had not been recovered. Initially, Mexican authorities seemed skeptical of Tiffany Hartley's story ...
